Baptism of Paul Wurth ‘Red Fire’ Rose marks 150 years of excellence, progress and evolution

Luxembourg, 26 August 2022 – Paul Wurth was honoured today with the baptism of a new variety of rose created in its name. The ‘Red Fire’ was bred in 2020 to celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the founding of Paul Wurth, though the baptism was postponed to today because of the COVID pandemic.

“We are delighted to have a rose created in the name of the company to which many of us have dedicated our careers”, said Georges Rassel, CEO of Paul Wurth. “Paul Wurth has been at the cutting edge of iron and steelmaking since our founding in Luxembourg in 1870 – and this flower symbolically marks the start of the next 150 years of growth and development.”

The Red Fire rose, created by expert rose growers Mr and Mrs Velle Boudolf to commemorate the 150^th anniversary of Paul Wurth, is a vigorous shrub with vivid tones of fire. The flowers consist of about fifteen delicately serrated petals highlighting the ember-red corollas and golden eye. The bloom has a light fragrance. Flowering is generous until autumn and the rosebush constantly forms young shoots. The dark foliage is said to be resistant to fungal infections.

“Our eponymous rose will adorn our headquarters, and we see it as a fitting symbol for our anniversary. This is also why we have invited two long-serving colleagues to be the godparents to the rose, and they will baptise the rose with water taken from the Pétrusse river”, said Mr Rassel.

Rose cultivation and breeding has an established history in Luxembourg, mirroring that of Paul Wurth. As with our company, Luxembourgish rose growing began in the 19^th century in the land around the City. The blooms, like Paul Wurth’s products, have been exported around the world.

The rose baptism took place on 26 August 2022 at the Paul Wurth headquarters in Luxembourg, surrounded by invited guests, representatives from Patrimoine Roses pour le Luxembourg, and members of the Paul Wurth staff.

Taufe der Paul Wurth „Red Fire“ Rose markiert 150 Jahre Exzellenz, Fortschritt und Entwicklung

Luxemburg, 26. August 2022 – Paul Wurth wurde heute mit der Taufe einer neuen Rosensorte geehrt, die im Namen des Unternehmens gezüchtet wurde. Die Rosenart ‘Red Fire’ wurde 2020 zur Feier des 150-jährigen Jubiläums der Gründung von Paul Wurth gezüchtet, die Taufe wurde jedoch wegen der COVID-Pandemie bis zum heutigen Tag verschoben.

„Wir freuen uns sehr, eine Rose im Namen des Unternehmens zu erhalten, dem viele von uns ihre Karriere gewidmet haben“, sagte Georges Rassel, CEO von Paul Wurth. „Paul Wurth ist seit unserer Gründung in Luxemburg im Jahr 1870 führend in der Eisen- und Stahlerzeugung – und diese Blume markiert symbolisch den Beginn der nächsten 150 Jahre an Wachstum und Entwicklung.“

Die Red Fire Rose, die von den erfahrenen Rosenzüchtern Frau und Herrn Velle Boudolf zum 150-jährigen Jubiläum von Paul Wurth gezüchtet wurde, ist ein kräftiger Strauch mit leuchtenden Feuertönen. Die Blüten bestehen aus etwa fünfzehn zart gezackten Blütenblättern, in denen die glutroten Blumenkronen und das goldene Auge hervorstechen. Die Blüte hat einen milden Duft. Bis in den Herbst hinein blüht der Rosenstrauch üppig und bildet ständig junge Triebe. Das dunkle Laub gilt als resistent gegen Pilzbefall.

„Diese nach uns benannte Rose wird unseren Firmensitz schmücken, und wir betrachten sie als ein passendes Symbol für unser Jubiläum. Aus diesem Grund haben wir auch zwei langjährige Kollegen als Paten für die Rose eingeladen, die die Rose mit Wasser aus dem Fluss Pétrusse taufen werden“, so Rassel.

Der Rosenanbau und die Zucht haben in Luxemburg eine lange Geschichte, die sich mit der von Paul Wurth deckt. Wie unser Unternehmen begann die luxemburgische Rosenzucht im 19. Jahrhundert in den Ländereien rund um die Stadt Luxemburg. Die Rosen wurden – wie auch die Produkte von Paul Wurth – in die ganze Welt verschifft.

Die Rosentaufe fand am 26. August 2022 im Paul Wurth-Hauptsitz in Luxemburg statt, in Anwesenheit von geladenen Gästen, Vertretern von Patrimoine Roses pour le Luxembourg sowie Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern von Paul Wurth.

Le baptême de la rose “Red Fire” de Paul Wurth marque 150 ans d’excellence, de progrès et d’évolution.

Luxembourg, le 26 août 2022 – Le baptême d’une nouvelle variété de rose créée en son nom rend aujourd’hui hommage à Paul Wurth. La “Red Fire” est née en 2020 pour célébrer le 150e anniversaire de la fondation de Paul Wurth, mais son baptême a dû être reporté à aujourd’hui en raison de la pandémie de COVID.

“Nous sommes ravis qu’une rose ait été cultivée au nom de l’entreprise à laquelle nombre d’entre nous ont consacré leur carrière”, a déclaré Georges Rassel, PDG de Paul Wurth. “Paul Wurth est à la pointe de la sidérurgie depuis notre fondation au Luxembourg en 1870 – et cette fleur marque symboliquement le début des 150 prochaines années de croissance et de développement.”

La rose Red Fire, élevée par les rosiculteurs experts M. et Mme Velle Boudolf pour commémorer le 150e anniversaire de Paul Wurth, est un arbuste vigoureux aux vifs tons de feu. Les fleurs sont composées d’une quinzaine de pétales délicatement dentelés mettant en valeur les corolles rouge braise et son cœur doré. La floraison dégage un léger parfum. Elle est généreuse jusqu’à l’automne et le rosier forme constamment de jeunes pousses. Le feuillage foncé est réputé résistant aux infections fongiques.

“Notre rose éponyme ornera notre siège, et nous la considérons comme un symbole opportun pour notre anniversaire. C’est également pour cette raison que nous avons invité deux collègues de longue date à être les parrains et marraines de la rose, qu’ils baptiseront avec de l’eau prélevée dans la rivière Pétrusse”, a indiqué M. Rassel.

La culture et la sélection des roses ont une histoire bien établie au Luxembourg, à l’image de celle de Paul Wurth. Comme pour notre entreprise, la culture des roses luxembourgeoises a commencé au 19ème siècle dans les terres autour de la ville. Les fleurs, comme les produits de Paul Wurth, ont été exportées dans le monde entier.

Le baptême de la rose a eu lieu le 26 août 2022 au siège de Paul Wurth à Luxembourg, entouré d’invités, de représentants du Patrimoine Roses pour le Luxembourg et de membres du personnel Paul Wurth.
