EVRAZ ORDERS PCI TECHNOLOGY FOR ITS RUSSIAN BLAST FURNACE PLANTS

Evraz orders PCI Technology for its Russian Blast Furnace Plants

Luxembourg, August 3rd 2010. The Evraz Group has chosen the PCI technology of Paul Wurth S.A., Luxembourg, and awarded the company with orders for engineering and supply of coal grinding, drying and injection plants for the blast furnaces located at Evraz’ Nizhnij Tagil, Urals, and Novokuznetsk, West Siberia, works.

Paul Wurth’s contractual scope of supply comprises all key components including coal grinding mills, the injection plants with static distribution of the pulverized coal as well as the complete control and automation systems of all necessary plant units.

The new technology will be applied to two blast furnaces (6,900 tpd nominal hot metal production each) of NTMK in Nizhnij Tagil and to three blast furnaces (total nominal hot metal production: 18,700 tpd) at ZAPSIB Novokuznetsk. The installations will be designed for specific injection rates of up to 200 kg pulverized coal per ton of hot metal.

The new technology will improve blast furnace process efficiency and increase productivity. A significant amount of metallurgical coke will be saved; the pulverized coal will also largely replace natural gas as an auxiliary reduction agent.

Commissioning of the plants shall be completed in 2012. The project will be executed in close cooperation with Evraz as well as with local, Russian engineering and equipment suppliers, construction and erection companies.
